In the article titled 5 Key Reasons Why Keyword Research is Important for SEO by SEOptimer, the writer emphasized the main reasons why every SEO and marketer needs to prioritize keyword research. This should be the first step when starting a new SEO campaign and to gain valuable information about both the competitors and potential consumers.
The first reason is to find out what people are searching for online. This gives instant feedback to know whether nor not a content idea is worth spending time and resources on. The second reason is to understand the competitive landscape. This gives insight into the difficulty level of ranking for that particular keyword or phrase in top search engines. The next reason why doing research for keywords is important is because it identifies low competition content opportunities. By finding the keywords with low competition, you are more likely to increase the odds that your content will attract visitors to your website. It also reveals which keywords have high competition and that you may want to avoid. The next reason is to understand search intent. By doing so, you can create content that aligns with why people are making a particular search. The final reason highlighted in this particular article is to assist in generating new content ideas.
Some additional tips the article mentioned to generate new ideas for keywords as you research is to look at google suggest phrases. Another tip was to look at commonly asked questions to reveal what other people are curious about. The section in Google titled “People also ask” is a helpful tool to indicate popular content. This article was a good reminder that it is very important to do research when choosing keywords to implement to a site, rather than deciding based on what seems right to you as that may not be indicative of the consumer’s desires.

This is super important– we usually think we have a pretty good idea of what people are searching, but in reality we probably don’t know the full extend of it, or what words are competitive. This is why it’s so important to do research.
The article you found is great and you articulated the key points very well. I have found in my own experience that the questions that are actually being asked are different than the ones that I think are being asked. This mistake could be detrimental and I feel it takes humility, even if you feel like you are an expert in the area of search, to dig deeper to find the real questions that are being asked.
