Did you say…Reddit?

Professor Sweet once asked the class if anyone looked at Reddit forums to find out more about your target audience. No one said anything, or even raised a hand. Then in the following weeks, I was working on a project for another class when I found myself diving deep into Reddit forums to find out more about why people loved or hated something, and I found out so much more about the target consumer than I did through any other research. I realized that Professor Sweet might have been on to something when I found an article about Reddit and using it for SEO.

The article talks about how Reddit is often overlooked but can be a true gold mine for small businesses when it comes to understanding and engaging with your target audience. What was really interesting was the way the article discussed Reddit operating as a community, rather than just a social platform (although this is also the first thing the article says to consider Reddit as). People come to subreddits to ask questions, share experiences, and talk about some deeply intriguing topics. For small businesses, this means you’re joining real conversations with your audience instead of just throwing ads at them.

For example, if you sell running gear, you could look up a subreddit like r/running, share insights about your products, and answer questions without pushing a hard sell. Over time, this helps people see you as more trustworthy and it can help naturally drive more traffic to your site. This is exactly how I found my new running shoes.

From an SEO perspective, the article emphasized how Reddit can indirectly boost rankings. If your contributions are helpful and of course include links to your site, people are more likely to click. That traffic tells Google that you’re not just spamming your links, you’re sharing genuinely valuable and useful information.

In my own research on Reddit forums, you can’t help but be drawn to the authenticity. If you can truly engage thoughtfully, others are likely to respond well and your business can gain visibility in ways traditional ads just can’t achieve. So maybe next time Professor Sweet asks if anyone uses Reddit for pain discovery, the whole class will raise their hands!

I like your topic. It is interesting how Reddit can boost rankings. I have never used reddit. I kind of look at it as a application with no filters. Good post.

I like your perspective on this! Listening to people’s actual, unfiltered opinions definitely help you establish your target market. It is important to use the content that consumers who may be interested in your business put on the internet
