“Helping A Reporter Out” Can Help Your SEO Out.

Every decent SEO professional has heard about link-earning, which is exactly as it sounds: the process of gaining/earning a link to your website from another site because they believe your content is relevant to them. And there are many tactics to boost your link earning, but one stuck out to me personally: HARO (Help A Reporter Out).

As someone who does a lot of writing, I’m always interested in places where research can be shared and where people can connect. And HARO is just that: a website that reporters, researchers, journalists, and bloggers use to encounter and gather knowledge, sources, and of course, information for whatever piece they are working on. But HARO isn’t only beneficial for journalists. For a while now, companies have been using HARO to boost their search traffic because of its enormous potential to supply them with quality backlinks.

But how could one take advantage of this incredibly opportunity? Well, first of all, you need a HARO account, so just get that out of the way first. Next, you need to find and answer reporter queries relevant to you/your company. When setting up an account, you will need to choose which industries you want to receive queries from and HARO will then send you multiple emails per day that contain ones you should look at. Once you find the query/queries you wish to respond to, you’ll need to respond to that reporter via a direct email or a HARO pitch (which is just another way to respond via the HARO dashboard). When writing a pitch/email, you need to make sure your answer is quick, to-the-point, and well-researched. You also need to respect the reporter’s deadline and include details about yourself, your credentials and links to your website, so they know you’re legitimate and so they can reference your company by name or even include a link (which would be fantastic for SEO). Just make sure to avoid selling your product/service to the reporter… they aren’t your final target, they are just a means of reaching your final target. From then, you just have to wait and see if your pitch gets accepted (and this may take quite a while). But if it does, you might just find yourself with some new search traffic.

According to Sean Si from seo-hacker.com, HARO is one of the best ways to gather natural backlinks for your website. Of course, there are lots of other ways to boost your link-earning but HARO is a great way to do it naturally and safely without bumping up against any black hat tactics.

This seems like a great platform to share helpful information and gain exposure to your site. HARO kind of reminds me of a forum where people go to get answers and others’ thoughts and ideas. Overall, this was a great post that taught me about a platform I didn’t know about.
