Keywords and their effect on gathering information: The Weather

Crazy Weather Example

Recently we have had some crazy weather events in our area and I would like to highlight some ways in which we can stay informed using keywords. The flooding impacted much of Western Pa, and it has been highlighted in most of of news broadcasts from the city of Pittsburgh.

This picture above is of the Pittsburgh Point flooding on April 4th, 2024.

To find this image I opened up Google and searched “flash flooding in downtown Pittsburgh”. Many articles came up all pertaining to this flooding due to me stating where I was looking for the flood: Pittsburgh. I found myself adding in many locations to my search as I wanted to know what the flooding there was like. I also searched up Grove City, Slippery Rock, and New Kensington for example too. Many similar images came up showing the impact of the flooding in those areas.

If I would have just typed in “Pittsburgh” and not “flash flooding in downtown Pittsburgh then very different images of the city would come up. I ran an example down below where I didn’t specifiy the kind of Pittsburgh images I wanted to see when asking about the flood.

Picture of Pittsburgh during the fall of 2022.

When I search in google for images of Pittsburgh the picture above can be seen all across Google. In conclusion to my test search examples, Google has become very specific over the years and is more intune with what we are looking for and sometimes may give us too much information or not enough. I urge the readers to try this out themselves no matter how simple this test is I found it more interesting the more I looked into it.

Fantastic use of graphics to demonstrate a point. Using a recent event makes your post even more relevant and more likely to be seen/searched by people. Using a secondary title looks better and drives interest, and I like how you used links to connect to basic pages (the fact that both the links worked is also nice.

This is a very interesting way to think about SEO. I didn’t even realize that Pittsburg was flooding lol…

Love the use of graphics here, really tied this point together and it was a very thoughtful post. Also loved the use of conversational language. Keep up the great work!
