Despite massive SEO budgets and content teams held by large companies, a solo blogger was able to outperform all of them in a specific area of SEO. In the niche area of tiny house solar power, a solo blogger who we will call Ben (the blogger wrote anonymously) beat our major solar companies in SERPs. Ben created a personal blog centered around off-grid living. Ben was a tiny house enthusiast and soon recognized that people online were searching for specific questions and info that was not being answered or provided, such as “Best solar kits for tiny homes”, “How to power a shed with solar”, and “Tiny house battery setup”.
Seeing a clear gap in available content from larger companies, Ben took it upon himself to answer such questions on his own blog. His blog focused on extremely specific topics related to small scale solar, and every blog post tackled one exact question in detail. Ben used photos from his own solar projects, and included real prices, products, and pros & cons from his personal experiences. Ben also targeted long-tail keywords that had low competition, and used clean titles, H2s, and meta descriptions. He also optimized image alt tags and file names for every photo he used. He included links to Amazon and other solar retailers and the products he used and showcased. Ben also stayed engaged with his audience, and answered specific reader questions and comments, he even sold an eBook on solar DIY setups.
The result of all of this; Ben’s blog ranked #1 for dozens of tiny house solar queries online, outranking giants like Home Depot. Ben earned over $100,000 a year from affiliate revenue and his eBook sales. Ben had done all this without ads, a team, or link building. All Ben had was a WordPress blog, and smart content. This story reminds us of the power of specificity in SEO and relevant, quality, engaging content, and that even solo creators can capture a market online with such content.

Good job on this post! It was really well written, and I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this topic. It is so interesting to see how good SEO can impact companies in such dramatic ways and how you can make so much money from doing it right.
The impact of SEO cannot be overstated! Doing SEO right can help you compete with industry giants where there might be a gap otherwise. It can also be super profitable and increase your revenue if a proper strategy is put in place! Great post!
Great job! This was a really interesting and inspiring story about the real impact of SEO
This story is a great reminder that you don’t need a big team or alot of funds to make SEO work for youu, just need to be smart, specific, and helpful. By focusing on real questions, sharing your own experiences, and targeting low competition keywords.
this is a powerful example of gaps in content. I am amazed that one person, no team, could accomplish so much. again, its the power of niches and content gaps. well written post
