Today in class Professor Sweet asked the question, “What is Link baiting is…?”. Links are one of the best ways to leverage authoritative websites in your industry. Links are the most powerful providers in SEO of sending traffic to your site. It is also important that you create compelling content that others want to link to naturally.
Professor sweet says, “Link equal to the currency of the web”. The value of sites linking to you is related to, Authority/trustworthiness, Industry relevance, Quantity, Anchor text (text of the bases of the blue link). For my mom art business, I would want to make sure the links on her website are places where she hangs her artwork, businesses sites that have her artwork hung in their stores, clients who own blogs or businesses. If my mother completes a gallery show or a popup, she could figure out how to pose the content on her site so she could incorporate the business or blog posters into the content and link back to their websites. She would also ask if they could link her page of content to their site.
Rand Fishkin says, “Links are the main determinants of ranking behavior”. The more affiliated your website is to general content on the web makes the algorithm trust your content to be ranked higher. Links and offsite SEO have multidimensional in terms of impact, Natural referrals demonstrate interconnectedness, determine frequency and depth of googles crawling activity and freshness of content is important. The freshness of my mom’s content is weak. Some of her content is a year old. For an artist, pictures of art can be on their pages for ever since they are painting can still be for sale. My mom has been doing her art collection for 3 years. The way she could present and strategize her content could be optimized more.
Professor posed the question to the class “What is Page Rank?”. He said that it’s an indicator of the relative authority and trustworthiness of a website. Pank rank is a mathematical formula that judges the “value of a page” by looking at the quantity of other pages that link to it. Its purpose is to determine the relative importance of a given webpage in a network. A primary metric is a page that holds authority and trust. Artists in my mother area haven’t used much SEO on their sites. I think my mom could compete with her SEO with some well-known artist in her area.
