The Importance of Keyword Research

One of the biggest pieces of search engine optimization is keyword research. This is where businesses can target users’ interest and find the content that will bring people to the site. Finding and selecting the best keywords that relate to the business can be a helpful guide for people navigating the site. Keywords help catch the eye of users when they are searching for something on the internet. For example, if a teenage girl is searching for a new pair of shoes that are trending, she may be looking for keywords like “White Hokas,” “Birkenstock clogs,” or “Adidas sambas.” Having these words on your site would attract this girl to your page because you are offering what she is looking for, or at least some more information on it. This will catch her attention and make her want to know more, causing her to enter your site. From there it’s up to the other keywords and content that’s on the page to keep her engaged.

Essentially keywords are the hook that grabs the attention of consumers and brings them in, that’s why they’re so important for a company to optimize. A crucial part of keyword research is understanding your customers and targeting just what they are interested in and the specific pain they are looking to solve, whatever that may be. Keywords are about getting to know your customers and the answers they are looking for with their search; this is a great way to make relationships with consumers even if they’re not direct, in-person relationships. This makes an online relationship between the customer and the company site, creating feelings of trust in the customer.

To figure out the words that will attract the most consumers this is where keyword research comes in. Keyword research identifies which words have the most traffic and lesser traffic making them more accessible for sites to rank higher in. The goal is to find keywords that are popular, which means people are regularly and consistently searching for them, but not a keyword that is already being used heavily by many which means it’s overly competitive.
