The goal of any business is ultimately to maximize profits. This is not the exception for any local golf course. On a casual weekend, many golfers will want to play and look on the internet for courses to play near them. This is a great opportunity for golf course owners to increase their SEO efforts so that they are the courses that the local courses are finding when they are looking to play.
Benefits doing SEO
- Higher on SERP – when your local course shows up higher on the SERP people are more likely to click on the link to the website. The more people that look at your sight, the more people that are gonna come play your course.
- Reputation – The higher your course is on the local listing the better it looks in the customer’s eyes. If your website falls fourth in line when you look up local golf courses to play, chances are that I will have a bad impression of your course before I have even given it a chance.
- Higher ROI – Doing advertising can chew a big chunk of your budget with no promise that there will be high returns. SEO costs virtually nothing while still boosting ranking on googles algorithm. And it’s hard to argue that if your sight is at the top of the search most people will be clicking on that website.
Strategies for Improving SEO of Local Golf Courses
- Targeting the correct keywords – Golf courses should not be focusing their efforts on keywords such as “Golf course”. Local SEO should include things such as city/town name and things such as “near me”. This better targets a location from which the person will be getting the most business instead of trying to compete with courses from a huge radius.
- Link Building – Local golf courses should be trying to build good links from trusted sources. These sources could be from people who review golf courses, golf publications, and maybe some news outlets. These links will show google that the website is valid and deserves to be higher on the SERP.

I found this interesting even though I am not an avid golfer, it’s important and very informative concerning getting higher engagement and higher returns on the content that is being published. It is also important to use keywords demographically which I found interesting and something that I feel isn’t always used in the right way.
Great blog post! It is interesting to think about how SEO can affect any business, even a small, local golf course! SEO is definitely a great, easy, and affordable option for this market. Very informative post, nice work!
As an avid golfer, this post summarizes how I find nearby courses very well. One of the first things I always check is the reviews of the course, so I know if it’s worth my money to even go. Local courses should definitely prioritize good reviews first, as that ultimately boosts both their SEO and their reputation.
