Blog Post #2 – Using Reddit for SEO

While looking for article ideas, I found out that Reddit is apparently a good way to leverage SEO since it has such high domain authority. I found this interesting because I do tend to notice that Reddit results will come up a lot when I Google something, but I never would’ve thought to use it for anything other trolling people and striking up strange conversations on the internet. Upon further research, however, I found this article Reddit SEO Strategy (15 Tips On Using Reddit for SEO) by SEO Chatter that says that Reddit is indeed a good way to leverage SEO. The article also shows us these tips on how we can do it to bring traffic from Reddit or Google onto our own sites:

  1. Add links to your bio
  2. Participate in relevant subreddits or threads
  3. Increase your Reddit Karma score (shows whether or not you are a basically a troller or you actually have credibility and offer useful information)
  4. Put your domain in Reddit Flair (info that appears next to your username)
  5. Optimize your post titles for SEO
  6. Post comments that are keyword optimized
  7. Create your own subreddit for your website
  8. Repurpose your existing content
  9. Join subreddits that encourage link sharing
  10. Create valuable content (not just advertising content)
  11. Research popular Reddit threads to come up with your own ideas
  12. Engage with hot topics
  13. Post content similar to that which gets the most upvotes
  14. Add links to older reddit post
  15. Create backlinks to your Reddit content

According to SEO Chatter, following these steps will help you improve your brand awareness, create relevant backlinks, and increase your number of pages that rank high on different search engines. Ultimately, I think this is all really cool because I never would have thought of using something like Reddit to help my ranking in SEO. However, Reddit is something that ranks high on almost all of my searches and it has all these cool functions that I didn’t really know about before that make it a great tool to use for SEO.

    Hi Abby,
I thought this suggestion of using Reddit was so creative and unique. I also think beyond using Reddit to boost your SEO and rankings, Reddit can also be a tool for conducting target market research. When we talked in class about using forums, this is what I immediately thought of. While it isn’t quite the same as what Professor Sweet showed in class, and you never quite know what you will get on Reddit, reading threads is a great way of getting an honest picture of what your target audience is actually saying and thinking. I personally have found myself using Reddit when I am trying to answer a question that requires a more custom and personalized response. Even if I’m not asking the question myself, reading others responses feels like I am getting personal feedback. This personal side of responses would be a really great resource for target audience research, because it is so real and genuine. Great thoughts!

Reddit’s rise to prominence in the SERP is because of Google’s integration of AI, and for popular or public opinions the AI is trained to parse through Reddit for those opinions.

Reddit is a great way to get in contact with individuals. Using forms that people write will help you out at understanding what people feel or want out of a product or service.
