Blog Post #5 – Cohesive Content

The content we use on websites needs a little context. If you haphazardly throw content on a page and call it a day, not only will the meat of your site be hurtful to your SEO, but anyone actually interested in your site will spend their time confused and lost on your page.

Creating a strong content theme before you even start writing can help you in your process of creating a strong website that ranks high on SEO. Your content spread will vary page by page, but the most important part about it is making it make sense. Throwing in pictures that don’t relate to the writing or links that take you to a random off-site page are just a few examples of bad content writing.

Spend your time creating content that flows from one point to the next seamlessly. Use photos that back up your words and words that back up your visuals. Content should feel organic and natural. Creating valuable content takes time and thought. You can’t just start writing without a plan and create a masterpiece. Think about every time you’ve written a final paper for a class. If you go in and wing it from the get-go, it’s going to feel clunky and dissociated from itself. Sometimes you need to sit down and think about the points you want to make, and research your topics to understand how each of them work along side the other.

Content should be thematic and schematic. It should carry the same big idea throughout, and be well thought through to create a page that feels like a cohesive experience for the user.

Great post on a topic that hasn’t really been touched! I like what you said about making your content and visuals communicate with and back each other up. If site slack off in one of those areas it makes the other less effective. Also great comments about site themes and planning. If you fail to plan then you plan to fail!
