Intro and First Thoughts on my Project.

For my project in this class I chose to work with a local non-profit organization All Good Things, where I volunteer. I have already begun doing research on how I can optimize the site I will build. Their current website is a Facebook for business profile which through their own efforts has decent optimization and one of the better optimizations of similar sites. I feel there is a really good opportunity to build a website since the other two thrift stores in the area do not have full websites either (Thrifty Treads also has a Facebook Business Page and the Salvation army has a basic sub page on the main Salvation Army site.) I feel as if All Good Things is not currently well known enough to draw many customers from outside the immediate area (apart from word of mouth or searching google maps) I think it will be challenging to optimize a site in such a narrow area with relatively few opportunities for relevant and interesting inbound links. I also will need to get approval at every stage for the vision I have for the site. I also need to work on the development of content that can be managed by someone with minimal internet experience. This may also preclude me having any inbuilt contact us forms or posts with comments I can solve some of the lack of content this may create by adding a Facebook widget so even without anyone actively working on the site it will still receive relevant content. I also really will need to work on user accessibility for this site as many of the store’s current customers are older and have difficulty using the regular Facebook page. However, the website will hopefully be able to bring in more younger customers. Overall I think this project provides a great opportunity.
