With the rise of Artificial Intelligence and AI Optimization, it can be challenging to determine the role it plays in regard to Search Engine Optimization. Is it the same? Is it different? Is one better than the other? It is first very important to understand that yes, they are two different tools This post will define each and discuss both the key similarities and differences between them. First, SEO is the process of improving a website and its ranking on search platforms like Google and Edge. SEO optimizes for keywords, backlinks, website speed and usability and numerous other elements as well. AI optimization is centered on making your content more accessible and usable by various AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot or other Generative AI sites. This includes improving factual accuracy, conversational phrasing, content structure, and embedded context like FAQs and summaries. As for similarities, AI optimization and SEO have a common purpose and goal. They both aim to improve visibility online, but the way in which they do this is different from one another. AI optimization has a target audience of AI models, while SEO has a target audience of search engine crawlers. AI optimization typically has a fast update frequency, as it is constantly using the newest available data to renew the content. SEO tends to have a slower update frequence which is mainly because it is indexed by robots. The content style of AI optimization and SEO is also very different. AI tends to be more clear, conversational and human-friendly, while SEO on the other hand, has a more formal style that is usually keyword-focused. The structure of the content of each of these is different as well, with AI being more informal like FAQs, bulleted lists, and summaries, and SEO having a more formal structure with an intro, headers and paragraphs. There are many more differences between AI optimization and SEO, but these seem to be the most evident. Because of these differences, it is important to understand that choosing between AI optimization or SEO isn’t the proper solution. Combining the two can be extremely beneficial as they seem to complement one another.
