Best Practices of SEO for 2026

Search Engine Optimization is constantly being developed and adapted to help deliver the right content and solve the problem or need for the user more efficiently. I looked into an article titled 12 SEO Best Practices for 2026 (12 SEO Best Practices for 2026 | DesignRush), to compare what they said to what we’ve looked at in our class, and I found a lot of similarities. Most of, if not all, of the practices have been talked or at least mentioned briefly in our class.

1.) Perform an SEO Audit. This involves doing a deep dive into how your website performs and areas of weakness and issues that can be worked on to make your website better. The specifics to evaluate are the elements on and off page, the actual content, the user’s experience, and awareness of competitors. 2.) Focus on Search Intent. This is self-explanatory, to understand why people look up the things that they do, that way you can deliver the correct specific content and results the user is looking for (solving their problem/need). The search engine algorithm is constantly developed to help meet the need of the user and their search intent. 3.) Find the Right Keywords for Your Niche. The article provided 4 steps (1) starting with seed keywords (2) using keyword research tools (3) performing competitive analysis (4) prioritize keywords. Essentially the 4 steps are to make keywords more accurate and efficient. 4.) Optimize On-Page SEO Elements. Developing on page elements are things such as: headers, titles, URL, links, and more. 5.) Use Keywords Strategically in the Content. Using the keywords in content, plugged into it in ways like through the title or header, in a description of the content, or even in the content itself.

6.) Publish High-Quality Content. After going through those first 5 steps, publishing original and relevant content that engages with the user is the next step. Know your target audience and what content would speak to them. 7.) Interlink Your Content. Interlinking content means interlinking pages in website that helps the user navigate between pages. 8.) Build Authoritative Backlinks. Building backlinks is suggested because they increase the website’s domain authority and improve the website rankings. It can boost traffic and even increase conversion rates too. 9.) Optimizing Images. Optimizing images can look like images loading more quickly which helps satisfy the user and keeps them on the site for a longer period of time. 10.) Ensure the Website is Responsive. Ensuring the website is responsive helps increase engagement and improves the website speed, this is a rank up for SEO. 11.) Reduce Your Website’s Loading Speed. This is self explanatory, increasing the speed helps satisfy the user. User’s are typically not patient if a site takes too long, this can keep users engaged for a longer period of time. 12.) Improve User Experience. This is the overall goal of adapting a website and SEO, to improve user experience. I liked these twelve steps that the article broke down more in depth because they were all if not most of them have already been talking about in our class and why they attribute to succeeding in SEO.
