Search Engine Optimization and Sports

Search engine optimization is talked about a lot in the context of businesses and organizations however the reach of SEO is much larger than we may think. So, I decided to look into an area that I’m interested, sports, which can often involve the use of SEO.

As a small-town sports organization or a local athletic club, it can be difficult to get your name and information out into the public when sites and the digital world are crowded by big names and brands that can steal all of the attention. This is where search engine optimization can come into play, it is a great way to reach your target audience in a low-cost way. I played 5 years of club volleyball, and it can be very competitive space, not only on the court but also off the court. Volleyball clubs compete for the best athletes in the area to be on their teams so they can perform successfully in the best tournaments across the country. These clubs utilize social media, websites, and events to spread awareness about their own brand. With all these tools coming into play the smaller local clubs can get blocked out by the bigger clubs with more money.

This is why search engine optimization can be such a big deal. By creating high-quality content and using keywords that are relevant to what your customers are looking for, those smaller name clubs and organizations can get their business out there and seen by more people. When it comes to this, the more specific the better and the more often the better. Creating content specific to what your audience would be searching for and posting things continually will increase awareness of your brand and help boost sales.

I like how you used sports as an example to explain SEO. The volleyball club story makes it easy to understand why smaller organizations need SEO to compete with larger brands. It clearly shows the effectiveness of keywords and consistent content in increasing visibility.
