Keyword Stuffing

Keyword stuffing is defined in the article as using the same keywords over and over again in your website’s content. This process is usually noticeable and is not pleasing to the user. There are two types of keyword stuffing which include visible and invisible. Visible keyword stuffing is when there is unnecessary repetition of words and phrases throughout content. Invisible is when you are trying to hide text by having the text invisible. This version is not able to be seen by humans and gets picked up by the spiders on the search engines. The invisible text does not have to be included on the actual content page; it can be located in the alt text, coding on a webpage, or in the meta tags.


The process of keyword stuffing affects four categories. These include user experience, penalties, loss of users, and brand damage. A customer’s user experience is crucial in the discovery process. If a company has a poor experience then the customer is likely to leave the page. This experience gets affected by keyword stuffing because it focuses on the rankings and not the journey which can lead to less conversions. The second category is penalties. Google punishes websites that have keyword stuffing that can lead to losing your ranking or even getting your site removed from the search engine result page. The third category is loss of users. If a consumer realizes the page is not targeted towards their need then they will be more likely to go to a different page. The content on a site should be created to have a positive experience for the customer. Having a high ranking page is beneficial but must also meet the needs of the user. The final category is brand damage. This is relevant because a consumer’s perception is crucial for the success of a brand. If they associate your brand with poor content then their consumer behavior will be shifted to a different more reputable site.

    This is a great explanation. Keyword stuffing as a strategy seems reasonable until you read it and realize it sounds way too repetitive to capture any readers. The best strategy is to find a balance between keywords and quality content in order to retain a clean reputation.

    Great post! You accurately described the dangers of keyword stuffing. From your post, it sounds to me like keyword stuffing directly attacks what the main goal of any site should be: to efficiently and effectively answer the user’s search questions. Great job articulating how keyword stuffing is harmful to both the viewer and the company owner by both destroying the company’s credibility and neglecting to satisfy the searcher’s query.

    I liked your summary of keyword stuffing and found it really informational to both people experienced in marketing and new learners. The highlight of how there can be good and bad keyword stuffing was a nice addition so that people can know there are pros and cons of it.
