SEO stratagists have used blogging as a way to increase visibility and expand audiences for years. Writers used to keyword stuff articles, and mention keywords every sentence in an attempt to boost their page rankings. Stratagists now generally accept keyword stuffing as ineffective, but still utilize blogs to improve SEO.

The most strategic method to improve SEO with a blog is to use topic clustering. Clustering uses one general pillar page which links to other topic posts. For example, a teashop might want to sell tea sets and use the idea of “tea ceremonies” as a pillar page to link the topic clusters. The clusters could be about types of tea ceremonies around the world like in China, Japan, Korea, Morocco, England, etc. These topics could easily cover common keywords associated with tea, such as “matcha”, “tea snacks”, “tea pot”, “tea pets”, etc. At the end of the page, the writer could attach more relevant articles improving a search engines understanding of the overall website. By using topic clustering, websites are strategically blogging in a structured way. Furthermore, this method is more helpful for readers and more likely to decrease bounce rate.
