The Future of SEO

As technology and the market evolves, so do SEO strategies and concepts. In particular, a user centric approach has been prominent over the past few years. The rise of AI has a lot to do with this. The technological advancement that AI is, allows for search engines to better gauge what the user’s intent is in a search. The direct use of AI in SEO has made SEO more conversational in an attempt to gain a better understanding of user intent. One of my previous blog posts focused on GEO and how to optimize for an AI driven search. An alternate example to GEO for AI in SEO is search generative experience (SGE). SGE is the Google AI powered search experience.

SGE

With SGE, search results are no longer just a list of blue links. Users are now shown AI generated summaries that pull information from multiple sources and present it directly on the search results page. This is very useful and popular amongst users as quick searches can often become very effective in delivering desired information quickly. The SGE only becomes an issue when it comes to deep research where quality is more necessary. Especially a background check for the credibility of the information. Ultimately, SGE changes how websites gain visibility. If users can get a full answer without clicking on a website, traditional organic traffic strategies are impacted.

Zero-Click Searches

This is where zero click searches become important. A zero click search happens when a user’s question is answered directly on the search engine results page, so they do not need to visit another site. Hence the zero clicking. While this concept has existed through featured snippets and knowledge panels, AI generated summaries make it more common and more detailed. This means website traffic is less likely due to users finding their information upfront without much scrolling or scrounging the internet.

For brands and marketers, this means SEO can no longer focus only on rankings and clicks. Structured data, strong topical authority, and clear content are increasingly important because they improve the chances of being included in AI summaries. The future of SEO will not just be about driving traffic, but about building visibility, credibility, and authority within AI driven search experiences.
