I have an e-commerce website that I was tasked with improving. The company behind it is small, operated by two people. As such, it seems appropriate to know the ins and outs of ecommerce SEO.

Step 4: Pay Attention to Technical SEO

Technical SEO is important as well. You should design a structure for your website that makes sense. Use a robots.txt file to tell search engines what pages they can crawl. Tags can help categorize content on your website for search engines. Additionally, you may use schema markups to provide more useful metadata for categorizing your products.

Step 5: Ensure Fast Load Times and Site Speed

Speed is everything. If customers are waiting too long for your site to load, they will look somewhere else. There are several ways to reduce page loading times, the best way is to optimize images. As an ecommerce business, you will likely have loads of product images on your site. Try compressing images and using efficient image formats such as webp. Additionally, you can implement “lazy loading” for images so that they only load as the customer scrolls down the page. Other important factors of improving site performance is choosing a reliable hosting provider and avoiding too many redirects.
