Simple Website

Lets talk about the actual website! I am going to talk about simple things you can do to improve your website for the users. One thing that I think people forget about SEO often is that your website is supposed to be for your consumer. Often times people are greedy and only create their website for search engines, which is actually not as beneficial as they think it could be. I am having this problem with the clients I am working with now, they want to keyword stuff the first paragraph and the front page. Which I have told them that is not the best option. Another thing with website design that I found very interesting is what was said today in class, sometimes users aren’t ready for the deepest amount of information. I have designed websites before within my major (design and innovation) and usually I put important information and the deepest information on its own page (typically the about us), but even for me this is a good reminder. Often the deepest information people actually do not really need or want. Another important factor when building a website is a pretty website is actually helpful. If your website looks good more people, the more people will feel it is trustworthy. So a pretty website isn’t just for aesthetic, but legitimate business reasons, this can go on for multiple things such as your logo and brand all together. Another thing we talked about today that can be helpful on your website is humor. Like Sweet said it has to be tasteful humor not like a pastor who makes a joke that is unrelated to the sermon, but jokes that make sense. I have seen a few of these and even a small corney joke can help your users feel like you are trustworthy.

This is a super helpful reminder of how important it is to think intentionally about what it is that the user actually wants to see and find out. An overload of information can be very overwhelming and drive users away, while a simple and aesthetic looking website can increase traffic. There must be a good balance of the content and aesthetics.

This is so true! I’ve come across many websites who just like to dump a truckload of information on you. I typically don’t stay on those sites very long.
