The Secret of Writing Compelling Content

Writing compelling content appears intimidating at first given the vast amount of content available online. When considering what content to write or how to write that content, it is a fair concern to ask, “How can I set my writing apart from other, when the landscape is so competitive?” Although this is a valid question, there are many simple strategies you can use in order to write effective and compelling content.

First, the goal of your content must be usefulness and value creation. Determining a specific problem that you are trying to solve will be effective in ensuring your content is useful. Similarly, choosing the target audience of your content will help you figure out exactly what the main overarching goal of your content is. Once you determine that goal, you will be able to write content that points users to that goal. This intentionally written content will help your readers actively resolve their key issues revolving around their query.

Next, it is important to be actively looking for gaps in various issues in the marketplace of ideas. Once you do that, you must then use your content to fill the gaps substantively. This requires your content to be full of depth, not only in that it is long enough to provide useful information to its readers, but also that it is substantive enough to result in the user to be getting valuable, usable information out of it. The reader should not walk away the same after reading your content. The main goal of it should be to add value to the readers’ life and work towards satisfying their search query. This is why it is so critical to have your target users in mind so that you can tailor your content to the needs and pains of your intended audience.

Lastly, it is important to be realistic and specific in the goals you are setting. You are writing to convert your audience, but you must also be aware of the increment of change that you are targeting. Determine whether or not you are overshooting or undershooting for the specific page or page that you are working on. Being realistic in your goals will make them less intimidating and more attainable. It is important to consider whether or not your target for persuasion or change is clear. Additionally, it is important to determine what shift you are aiming towards: Is it intellectual, emotional, psychological, or pragmatic? Figuring out all of these factors will help you write more compelling, intentional content meant to target your intended audience and add value to their lives.

This is so interesting Violet! I totally agree. I think you need to look to make content that is beneficial to the user, fills the gap, and is intentional.
