Something that can often haunt us is our digital footprint. The horrendous selfie or stupid video that lingers online with impending doom that someone will uncover it. How can you fix it? Delete or archive it!

Once you hit a certain point in life, it may be time to look through your social and delete anything that could be incriminating to you getting a job or your future as a whole. Make sure to highlight the parts of yourself you value and leave any stupid mistakes in the past.

In addition, depending on your field it may even be beneficial to have a personal account and a professional account! Then one could be left private with photos and videos for only those you trust and the other can be public with professional content that all can see.

Leverage LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a very powerful tool in personal branding. Be sure to keep it up-to-date with experience, skills, certificates, and projects. It is a great way to keep a running resume.

You are your own brand. What you put out shapes how other see your brand.

Once you have set up and cleaned up your social medias, utilize those platforms to share relevant content. By sharing relevant content, you can connect with people who think similarly to you and may overlap with your personal brand. By finding these people you can create valuable connections and a large network.

Look at yourself as a brand – whatever you put out there is shaping your persona and reputation.

Maintain a Website

One of the first things a company does when searching a potential candidate is check google. From there they can be directed to social medias or a personal site.

Having a website lets you showcase your work, experience, and interests in a way that reflects you. It gives you the ability to market yourself in a way that you want to. Having a site with a blog also increases your online presence and could be helpful if you choose to start a business.
