Local SEO

For this post I read an article called “Local SEO: What Is It & How to Do It” from the semrush website. https://www.semrush.com/blog/what-is-local-seo/ As we discussed in class local SEO is applying SEO to local business listings that are displayed both in the regular serp and in services like Google and Bing maps. Local SEO much like standard SEO has both paid and organic search organic searches moderately more important in local SEO. According to semrush there are three key factors in determining which businesses go into the local pack, relevance distance and prominence. This is contrasted by the authors with ranking web pages in traditional SEO which is done by relevance quality and usability. While much of the process of ranking web pages for local is similar to regular SEO optimize for long tail keywords in the target market. Optimize on frequent searches on specific pages.

However there is one key difference between Local and general SEO local SEO has the ability to use the Google business profile in maps. This is a powerful tool that enables the business owner to claim the profile ensure information is correct and optimize the profile to appear as high as possible in local results. They can also sponsor their business but that is outside the scope of this course.  Managing and claiming the google business listing helps improve the ranking of the business in local results. One key way of doing this is to add images and keep the business’s contact, images, and address up to date. It is also important to use other tools to look for gaps in local seo rankings many tools can show where information is not correct or out of sync across platforms SemRush has some good tools in their suite for this. Finally local seo is highly important the more local a business is.
