Content is the key part that makes an experience on a site memorable for the user. The visuals, the words, the colors, the sounds, whatever it may be, content has the power to speak to the user and connect with them. Have you ever heard the saying “a picture speaks more than a thousand words”? Well this definitely applies with content, whether that’s a picture, or pictures of videos. Music even can connect with people in a memorable way. In class we heard the term “sticky”, that visuals can be “sticky”, and content can be as well. It is what makes and helps the user remember what they are looking at. Content is a powerful tool for SEO and a website that needs to be carefully implemented and frequently uploaded.
Before you make content and produce it, you need to know what you are doing. What I mean by that is you need to evaluate the content needs of whatever your target user group is, or whatever targets there may be you’re aiming to please. Ask yourself who your main users are and who would be looking at your sight as well as why they are looking for the content they are. What is that user group looking for? What is their need, their pain, what problems are they looking to solve, or what opportunities are they looking for. Content should deliver to that target audience exactly what they need or felt they needed. Content will bring satisfaction or connect with the user in some way (creating that memorable or “sticky” experience), and that will ultimately satisfy their need, their pain, or bring a solution to them. Content can really help your user. There are many things that need to be carefully thought of, many factors that come into play when you are incorporating content into a website.
Some basic content tips that we talked about in class are: Calculation, Analysis, or comparison tools. Content can be data you’ve collected, and content should be constantly analyzed and evaluated, use that information and success, the return on objective (ROO) and pivot from there. Content can be pages, posts, and articles as well. They can be exploratory, creative, humorous, informational, direct, or provide an interesting narrative. Diagrams, animation and visuals are more effective content tools. I’d even say that music itself can be an interesting content tool (think of jingles for commercials and stuff of that nature). Custom infographics, thoughtful and original images, fall under this category as well. Interactive elements are effective content tools as well. Think especially for social media when you see quizzes, polls, surveys, or more interactive elements that you actually want to participate in. Lastly, original video or audio content such as podcasts, videos, reels, and more, which I personally think is the most effective tool for content. Regardless of what content tool you decide to use, the content should connect and speak to the user. Content needs to be efficient and create a memorable moment for the user, solving their need, satisfying them, and ultimately benefiting the user in their search efforts.
