Why Do LinkedIn Accounts Rank So High?

Today I found myself wondering why my LinkedIn account appears above every other site on Google’s SERP (Search Engine Result Page). As someone with a very common name, one of my missions in life is to ensure that when “Abby Hagen” is searched in Google that the person that comes up is me, whether it be my LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or a personal site, I want to own MY name. At this time, when I search my name the first thing that comes up is my LinkedIn profile, and it makes me wonder why…so I did some research to find out.

Why Accounts Rank So High

A fact that we often overlook: LinkedIn ranks on Google. In fact, it has a domain authority of 98/100! Due to this, you will often find that your profile will typically appear higher than a site in Google. Essentially, you can think of it as a mini website that has already gained Google’s trust, so do not neglect to take advantage of it. LinkedIn is more than just for networking or job searches, but it also serves as a search engine and Google-friendly hub for content.

How to Rank on LinkedIn

Now that we recognize that LinkedIn is an incredible tool, we will now get into how you can ensure that your profile will rank.

  1. Make your profile public
  2. Have a complete profile
    • Profile Photo
    • Industry
    • Location
    • Current Position
    • Skills
    • At least 50+ connections
  3. Use keywords in posts
  4. Publish articles
  5. Use hashtags in posts
  6. STAY ACTIVE! — LinkedIn prioritizes active users

Conclusion

While I may not be the only Abby Hagen, with the use of LinkedIn, I can easily be the most visible one. Now that I know the power of the site, I will not neglect taking advantage of the tools they have given. With LinkedIn’s authority, I can ensure that when searching my name, searchers will see me.

*This is not an ad for LinkedIn

** If your name is Abby Hagen, ignore everything I just said

This is genuinely one of the most helpful blog posts I’ve ever read. I love using LinkedIn and never thought about the ability to optimize it! The list of how to rank well was SO helpful. Also a 98/100 domain authority is ridiculous
