In marketing, there are many different approaches you can take. Two common practices are white hat seo and black hat seo. This is something that has been covered in most, if not all, marketing classes here at Grove City College. White Hat Search Engine Optimization is a good form of marketing. This approach focuses on helping real people for the right reasons. These are practices such as writing helpful and original content. Another approach is to use keywords naturally. This helps build trust with users. Trustworthiness is a big deal in marketing. If your users do not trust you, you are not going to get the kind of results you either want or need for your business to succeed.
Black Hat marketing is a manipulative marketing tactic. A way to do this is keyword stuffing, which is fitting keywords in unnaturally to try to get a higher page rank. Another common practice is hidden text. There are a lot of different ways you can do this, some is making the text at a zero percent opacity or having the text be the same color as the background. Sometimes people will do something called cloaking, which is showing different content to the search engine rather than the users. In long-term situations, black hat marketing will not get you far and will only help you for a bit. Most of the time, this ends up in leading people to realize that you have an untrustworthy site. This is why it is important to start off with good and ethical marketing tactics even though it may take awhile to see real and good results. Oftentimes, people do not have the patience to see real results in their Search Engine Optimization, but this is one area in marketing where you truly have to be patient and keep up with your posting, blogs, and more.
