SEO terms can be confusing. Here are is a short list of definitions:
H1 Tag: An element of HTML that shows the computer the primary heading of a webpage. This is important to implement so that the search engine bots can efficiently crawl and index your website.
Keyword Proximity: How close your keywords are to each other. It is more beneficial to have them closer with each other within a block of text.
Alt Tags: A HTML element that describes photos. This is particularly useful for those with accessibility needs. Additionally, it is useful for the search engine bots to understand what your photos are of.
Title Tags: The first half of how a website link appears in the search engine results page. This is important so your audience immediately understands what your website is. It can be 50-60 characters.
Description Tags: The second half of how a website link appears in the search engine results page. It immediately follows the Title Tag, and is an opportunity to further explain your website. It can be 150-160 characters. This is part of a larger Meta Tag.
Short-tail SEO: Short, general, one word searches. These are particularly difficult to rank for.
Long-tail SEO: Longer, more specific search phrases. These are easier to rank for and have a higher probability (36%) conversion rate.
Keywords and Phrases: Words and phrases that your target users are searching for. An expression of interest or demand from the user.
Keyword Intent: What the user means when they type a search.
Ontology: Relationships among websites to determine the relevance of the content to a particular query.
Site Maps: An XML file that is a map of your website that users and search engines can understand.
Site Audits: A health report for your websites that show weaknesses, strengths, and nuances.
Anchor Text: The clickable portion of hyperlink text that you can see. It should be a quality description of what it links to.
