I was scrolling YouTube the other day and I came across this video titled, “How to Get Sponsored on YouTube”. As a kid it was my dream to have a YouTube channel and I always thought that getting sponsored was the pinnacle of coolness. Since then, my YouTube channel has grown and I was interested so I decided to watch the video and I picked up on some sales techniques throughout it.
To start, he talked about the importance of networking with people. I think that networking is crucial for everyone, whether in sales or not. When you have a large amount of connections, opportunities will eventually come from them. So much of sales is just about being able to relate to people so that they like and trust you, and I think that networking is something that we should all be forcing ourselves to do. In the video he used his networking to find emails of marketing/pr people in the company he wanted to work with.
When he talked about sending out the emails, he stressed the importance of making each email personalized to the brand rather than sending out mass copy/paste emails. People can tell when something is real or not, and they will always appreciate it and hear you out more if you take the time to show that you really care.
Last he talked about budget and he had some tips on how to get the most money out of it. He said that once you have their interest and you move on to talking about money, always ask them what their rates are. He said that even if they ask you for your rates first, pretend like you didn’t see it and ask them anyway. If you’re able to ask them first, then they might come back with a number that’s higher than what you would’ve told them.
I talked about sponsorships in my last blog, and its importance of them in the golf word. They are crucial in so many fields of business and mutually beneficial.
Being able to personalize an email in any industry is a great thing because it shows the connection that you’re trying to connect
