This is the tenth in a series of blog posts discussing the trading card game Magic: The Gathering (hereafter shortened to just “Magic”) and its connections to the world of sales.
If you are looking to sell off some Magic cards, the best value you will be able to receive for them will be through selling them online. Selling Magic cards online; however, has few pros and many cons, so for the final post in my series on Magic: The Gathering, I will highlight some of these for you.
Pros of selling your Magic cards online:
- By selling cards online yourself, through a trading card marketplace like TCGplayer.com, you are guaranteed to receive as much of the selling price of the card as possible, after a small percentage of the price is taken out in fees
- You can list and sell just a few cards at a time, at your own pace, rather than lugging a big box of cards to your local card game store to sell all at once for half their real value.
Cons of selling your Magic cards online:
- The time it takes to sort, price, list, pack, and ship cards to online buyers is tremendous, especially if the individual doing the online selling already has a part- or full-time job.
- Despite your best efforts to pack cards safely in sleeves and small bubble mailers, sometimes they will get damaged in transit and then, unfortunately, you must give the buyer a refund if they request it or you risk having some very negative feedback on your seller page.
- Equally unfortunate are those less-than-honest buyers who message you to say their card was damaged in shipping, even when it really wasn’t, just so they can get a partial or full refund on the card. These kinds of people are the WORST and they are just looking to take your money and your cards without any scruples about their lack of morals.
