When smart phones initially released, they were looked upon as an “addition.” Most people did not see the need in a smart phone and the majority of people stuck with their normal flip-phones. As time went by people started to change their perception of smart phones from an “addition,” to a necessity. In today’s world, it is more difficult to spot a flip phone than it is to spot a smart phone. Almost everyone has a smartphone and often times peoples livelihood are be dependent on it. But there is an interesting twist to the smartphone market…

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – SEPTEMBER 12: Apple CEO Tim Cook speaks during an Apple special event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on September 12, 2012 in San Francisco, California.

There is a good possibility that over 90% of the class has an Apple made iPhone. Whether it be an iPhone 4S or a brand new iPhone 7. A recent poll shows that Apple has captured 91% of the global smartphone market. This means that Samsung, Google, HTC, and a few other small phone companies are holding only a 9% share of the rest of the phone market. Further proving that Apple has managed to satisfy its consumers year after year. Apple has also stressed the importance of new innovation and new ideas to its employees. Apple has done something that no other company has before. They have revolutionized a single market by offering high end products and making the consumers feel as if they can’t settle for anything less.

  1. Honestly, I think a person could write several books about Apple’s marketing strategy. Why do you think they’re dominating so much? Sometimes I think that it isn’t always because they *are* better (my iphone has gone through so many chargers/earpods, it’s insane) but because their marketing gives the perception that they are better. I think they also do an incredible job with design and customer service as well.

    1. I think this is very true. Apple’s marketing strategy is like no other especially, because of their success. I think of fashion trends in this sense too how it becomes a necessity item for several years and then begins to go out of style. What Apple has done to avoid going out of style is incredible, from the hype of new products, to the continuous changes made every two years or so to the iPhone and how it is something that is looked as a necessity. Sadly, it has become viewed as such a necessity item you often see individuals owning these products that may not be able to afford actual life necessities, sad but truly marketing genius.

    2. This is a great article. And I agree that they may not be better but the perception that they give is that they are better. I think this perception comes from the apple specific things that come with the phone that make things easier. For example the group messaging between a group of iPhones is way easier than group messaging between a couple iPhones and a noniPhone. The noniPhone messes the whole conversation up, this makes people want to convert to an iPhone to allow for better communication. I think that a need like this makes the Apple have the perception of being better.

  2. Makes it clear as to why Apple is the most successful company in the history of civilization. I agree in that they do such a good job at making their customers have a good perception of them; obviously them having that much money to spend on advertising helps
