This past Christmas Break, I went to go by a car, because I totaled my previous car. The first thing I noticed when I pulled up to the car dealership was the salesman that was going to be helping me was outside taking a vape break… bad first impression, I think. Anyway, as I was walking around talking to him about what I was looking for, he was trying his best to swerve me into different and more expensive options. I ended up finding a front wheel drive car that caught my eye and fit my price budget, and I was almost set on it. When I went inside, I met the manager and he was more down to earth and personable to me than the salesperson had been thus far. He showed me other cars for the same price and created a relationship with me by being honest about his opinions on the cars and what not. However, to take a turn, I looked online to other dealerships near me and there was the exact car I was looking at for cheaper, and it was all wheel drive which would be better for driving in the snow up in Pennsylvania. When I broke the news to them that I was going to the other dealership, tables turned and they did everything in their power to try to make me stay with them. They lowered their prices, offered other cars for better deals, everything. But nothing was going to change my mind because the other car at the other dealership was genuinely the best fit for me and was out of their control. When I got to the other dealership, the salesperson was around my age and immediately created a relationship with me and was personable. The total came to $500 over my budget and I asked if he could save me that amount and he instantly said, “I got you bro,” and got me down to my exact budget.

Hi Noah, I think it’s awesome that you found a salesperson who was much more honest and seeking your pain and how to best serve you. While it’s concerning that you totaled your car, I’m glad you had an experience that remedied both that issue and also demonstrated how a good salesperson can help you better than a difficult one.
