I was sourcing material for my job, and the supplier was a Grove City Grad. Before getting into the business side of things, we just sat and shot the breeze for a minute. He reminisced about his old days at Grove City, and I got to fill him in on what has changed. This created a connection for us, which really helped the business process.
The thing I want to mention more or less is the importance of these connections. I understand that not every opportunity allows for someone to take the time to relate and connect with the person, but often, listening to someone’s pain (attuning) will allow you to find something that you can connect on. You’ll find that connections – networking – are priceless in the busines world. These connections, like the goal of selling, can be mutually beneficial – and they ought to be. The time old saying comes to mind – its not what you know, it’s who you know.
