Many people thought that the digital age would do damage to sales and the sales process, but it has only caused the sales process to be better. We are at a point and time where everyone is now a sales person. Technology has given us the capability to sell from our homes, to sell online, and to sell all over the world.
Another factor that is affected by the digital age is how salesmen can sell to their customers. It used to be through telemarketing or in person or maybe even by mail, but we are in a new era. Now there is email, cell phones, and the internet which all can be used to get information about your customer and also contact your desired customer. The digital age has caused certain markets to be able to expand to areas that they never would have been able to touch before.
An example of this switch to the digital age can be shown through sites like eBay or Amazon. Anyone can buy or sell anything from anywhere. There are no limits to who can sell or where they can sell from.
One last point that I would like to make about the digital age of sales has to do with the task of selling yourself. As a college student who is in the process of interviewing for internships, I have figured out the importance of selling myself. In a time where social media is so prevalent, I find it increasingly important to be aware that my social networking ultimately plays a factor in how I am able to sell myself. If I show that I am an upstanding citizen on my social networking sites then it makes it that much easier to sell myself if the company I am interviewing with would like to look at those sites.
The digital age has definitely created a different way of approaching and conducting the sales process, and the digital age will continue to do so because technology is always being updated and created.
Good point about selling yourself Kenny. It is important for all of us at this stage to be aware of our social media presence and be able to represent ourselves as best as we can.
