I was reading a couple of articles recently that all seemed to focus on different topics, but with a similar root problem. They were all about warnings against people assuming things that would lead to their failure. Mostly this would revolve around assuming something about your prospect or potential customers.
Assuming things about your potential customers regarding price can be the most detrimental thing you do to yourself. You may think you know what people can and cannot afford or will or will not buy. But, most of the time there is plenty of people who do not look the demographic that they actually fit. It is not smart to assume you know somebody’s financial situations just based off their appearance.
This is just one example of something you could assume about a customer. A good salesman gathers facts about their prospects and learns their potential customers. Assuming things is how you set yourself to fail. Great salesmen do not do that.
Very good point. Asking another question never hurt. You have to be extremely cautious in making assumptions in sales.
