Over this past week I had the opportunity to attend several events that were all very interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable. In particular on Thursday I had the opportunity to attend to an event down in Moon called Faith Driven Pittsburgh. I had the opportunity to speak to Entrepreneurs and Venture Capitalists with a mission to make the world as it ought to be through Entrepreneurship. It was a great event that featured many great speakers and even better network opportunities. In particular I really enjoyed the speaker who owned a company called Talenton. Talenton is a multi-faceted investing company that invests in business and manufacturing in East Africa. Their work is inspiring and is the definition of redemptive entrepreneurship. What I love about Talenton is there recognition of the great untapped potential of helping others in a way that is more permanent and lasting. In the past and to this day much of the west is still very exploitative in its dealings with many African nations. Talenton is different as it not only works with local business owners but provides the resources to fuel innovation and build a middle class by creating jobs with higher pay benefits and safety standards. The speaker spoke about Africa and its rapidly growing 1.2 billion population mark. What’s even more exciting is that many Africans have become Entrepreneurial minded and small scale businesses are popping up everywhere. The speaker for Talenton equated this rise in entrepreneurship to the 20, 30, 40s of the United States when it seemed like everyone was entering some kind of venture. Talenton fills a critical void as it provides the resources and know how to help these small business not only succeed but make their local economies stronger around them. To me bringing the true spirit of free market capitalism to Africa is the best way to help those in need as it helps to solve problems of poverty at its source.
