Everybody knows the movie Stepbrothers, whether you have seen it or not it is a hilarious movie about two step brothers that are trying to figure out their new life together. The whole movie has a funny premise of these two doing some of the dumbest things that two grown men could think of. Specifically in this scene, Brennan and Dale were set up with a few interviews for the day because both of their parents told them they need to get their lives together. Instead of going into these interviews as professionals they go in together and completely mess up every single interview. After watching the video, it definitely is hilarious seeing how upset the lady gets with how they both act and are pronouncing her name but this brings up some valuable points in “selling yourself” is an interview or sales conversation.
Professor Sweet has been talking in class a lot about how a sales conversation should look and what kind of questions to ask and how to act. We have been mainly focused on asking the open-ended questions to keep the conversation going, listen to what a person is saying, do not interrupt, and so many more points that could be highlighted. In the video of Dale and Brennan, they do the complete opposite of what a professional interview or sales conversation should go. They pronounce her name wrong, they both make inappropriate comments, they interrupt, they are BOTH in the interview; this whole interview is just down hill from the beginning. Keep in mind, this is just a movie and it is suppose to be funny, however, this is not good practice of the sales skills we have been learning about in class.
Basically, in a nut shell, do not act like Dale and Brennan in an interview or sales conversation…it is only going to work against you.
Stepbrothers is one of my favorites movies! It shows the transition of 2 immature 30 year old’s who live with their parents, to actual independent and functioning adults with jobs. The interviews that they do are hilarious but it does show what NOT to do during an interview, when trying to sell yourself.
I have never seen the movie Stepbrothers, but now I am interested in watching it. You are right, that is not a way to treat a potential customer, very unprofessional.
