If I sold cakes for special occasions, here are 10 potential questions I would ask to get to know your customer and their needs. You can’t have a script when talking to clients, but it’s smart to have a few questions ready!

  1. What’s the event’s theme?
  2. How many guests are you expecting?
  3. Are there any food restrictions that need to be accommodated?
  4. What flavors are your favorites?
    1. Rich flavors? Fruity ones?
  5. Are there any tastes you dislike?
  6. Is this for someone else? Who?
  7. Do you want the cake to match the decor or stand out a bit?
  8. What season will the event be in? Outside or inside?
    1. Will you have to deal with the heat of summer and have melting issues?
  9.  One a scale from 1-10, how important is the appearance of the cake? Why not a lower number?
  10. Could we schedule an appointment for a tasting?

Remember to be patient and wait for the customer to answer! Don’t jump in!
