There are many ways with which to try and sell customers on a product.  Some sellers focus on a price point, others on the quality of goods, while still others on the flexibility of the good.  There are so many different avenues available to approach a sales pitch with.  Sellers may find it difficult to understand and pick what is the best feature of their product to focus on and sell to their customer.  While some sellers have difficulty deciding on one specific aspect of their product to try sell, others go too broad.  The important thing to remember when deciding how to pitch your product to the customer is to not focus too much on the product.  The video below is an excellent example of enthusiastic entrepreneur, “Jones”, selling his business in an advertisement without thinking of the customer.

While I personally am QUITE sold on the services offered at Jone’s BBQ and would do anything for one of those barbecue sauce foot massages, Jones makes a critical mistake in his advertisement.  In his advertisement he doesn’t focus on his customer at all.  Instead, he flies through all the reasons why his barbecue is the best.  If you watched till the end, you even saw how poorly he treated one of his customers.  While Jone’s offers an incredible and unique customer experience many would be interested purchasing his ad focuses solely on his BIG personality.  His next TV ad he should focus more on customers and feature the customer experience.

  1. While Jones’ BBQ & Foot Massage has quite the entertaining commercial, he is definitely focused on his product features more than the customer, as you pointed out. I think Jones might need to practice not answering the unasked question.
