We have discussed good sales tactics and have highlighted how sales and the sales process has gained a bad rep. With people even associating this occupation with adjectives like distrustful, weaselly, manipulative, opportunistic, etc. So I just wanted to discuss a terrible and popular marketing tactic in order to highlight the importance of trust in building good, profitable customer relations. The tactic I will discuss is targeting customers insecurities in hopes of using of swaying customers to feel like they need your product. This practice is mostly seen in market’s like plastic surgery where the idea of perfection is huge selling point. And how do make perfection important to someone point and highlight their imperfections. A more simpler example is trying to sell someone a toothbrush by lying to them that their teeth are unhealthy and yellow. Thereby planting the seed of doubt in their mind.

You see the targeting of peoples insecurities a lot in modern culture. There’s a major push for both men and women to look a certain way physically, and for people to dress in specific ways as well. And if you don’t meet all of those points, you are much more likely to notice the targeting of those points that you don’t meet.
