Stompeez Original Commercial

“Stomp stomp stomp Stompeez,” rang in the ears of all children watching Nickelodeon or Disney Channel, right around Thanksgiving of 2012. For many of us, this was one of the first direct-selling ploys we fell victim to. Middle-schoolers around the United States were dying to get their hands on a pair of Stompeez. For me, it was the pink and white puppy Stompeez, that I simply “had to have”. As children, no matter what people told us, the lady with the booming voice and fancy background music on the television would NEVER lie. Stompeez were clearly “far more than just ordinary slippers”. Low and behold, on Christmas morning, around the world all my friends and I found our dream Stompeez underneath the Christmas tree. Immediately, I called up my grandma and told her I’m sleeping over soon because the commercial said “perfect for overnighters to grandma’s house”.

Soon enough however, I came to realize that they were in fact not “made to last season after season.” As my puppy ears started to droop, and eventually lost their “personality” by ceasing to work altogether, no matter how much I stomp stomp stomped my Stompeez, I realized they were no longer “loads of fun.”

 

As seen in this Stompeez commercial, and many other commercials as I grew up, Stompeez salespeople knew what they were doing. By appealing to a younger crowd, they did not have to directly sell to the money-makers, they had the perfect audience right in front of the screens. All they had to do was make a commercial exciting enough, and a jingle memorable enough, so that kids would not stop talking about Stompeez. They also timed their efforts immaculately as Christmas was right around the corner. The “full 60-day money back guarantee,” was not as good as it may seem. While they would reimburse you for the sale, you had to spend close to that amount on returning the item itself. Overall, Stompeez was more in it for the sale than the customer, which left them with very little second-time purchasers.
