When the word, “Sales” is brought up, most of the time people directly associate it with someone who’s trying to shove a product in your face. Characteristics such as being pushy, greedy, impatient, etc. are what most people think Salespeople portray. Most start-up companies tend to put their focus on viewing people as figures that can bring them profit, instead of viewing them as real people with real emotions. Consumers tend to view companies that don’t emphasize a relationship as untrustworthy and unreliable. Thus, leading them to refrain from purchasing in the future and spreading negative remarks. By focusing on a relationship, companies instill positive thoughts and feelings into their customers. Feelings including contentment, credibility, etc. From a consumer’s viewpoint, people want to purchase from companies that focus on answering any questions they may have, and fulfilling their wants/needs.
When someone expresses a desire to obtain a product or service that will answer their questions and fulfill their expectations, the companies who help that person whether or not they buy their specific product, seem to be more successful in the long-run. Relationship building gives people a sense of comfort and satisfaction that will draw them back when seeking out to fulfill a future desire. Because their questions will be answered, trust is built in both the customer and the company, which leads to future profits and success.

I think you make a lot of great points in this blog post. I definitely agree that it seems like people put salespeople in this category of not having any emotions at all. This is not true, and can be justified through the individuals that have been able to build trust but inside and outside of the company. People wouldn’t buy from a company they don’t necessarily trust. The salespeople have to have some sort of emotion to allow them to connect with their potential buyers.
I agree with your point that people don’t want to buy from someone who views them as profit. My favorite clothing store is always my first stop if I need a dressy outfit because if they don’t have exactly what i am looking for they will go above and beyond to help me find it. I’ve been going there first every time since high school.
