Over the summer I was given the opportunity to work for a company that is based on selling to customers. The company that I was working for is called STL Services, which stands for “Shine the Light of Jesus.” Our main products are epoxy and concrete flooring. This was my first time working with a company that was faith based. It was an incredible opportunity to work for a Christian based company and also learn more and more about running a business.
While working for STL, I learned a lot about entrepreneurship. One thing that stood out to me is how important customer service is to the customer. When it comes to making a sale, helping out the customer and trying to help benefit them would create a positive relationship with the customer. One customer bought an epoxy flake floor, and when the customer saw the floor, they weren’t thrilled. We offered to re-do the floor, which cost us more money, and the customer loved it and told all of his neighbors about our company.
Another thing that I was able to learn about is the use of upselling. Upselling can be seen as a bad thing if it is overused or used to cheat the customer. When we are trying to upsell, we would inform the customer that the floor will be more expensive but will look significantly better than before. One floor that we were doing was in a big factory. The plan for the floor was that it was supposed to be a solid epoxy floor and after some convincing, the floor was changed to an epoxy flake floor. The new flake floor looked extremely good and the customer was so happy with it, he had us do another one of his factories the same way as the previous one.
