Relating back to my previous blog post, what can really define a bad salesperson and a good salesperson is the mentality that each of them has. It can be perfectly summarized in the image above, “winners find solutions, losers find excuses.”
I remember back in my old sales job, someone had told a story about how they were on their way to an in-home visit (we’ll call them X) and had someone shadowing them (person Y). The two individuals arrived at the house and no one was there. Person X didn’t want to have their time to go to waste, so she decided to walk over to that person’s neighbor and asked if she knew when her client would be back home. The neighbor actually invited them into their house, and X ended up selling one of the more expensive products to the neighbor.
The moral of the story is that only those with the right mentality can make the best of a bad situation. Most people would have turned away from the first house with their head down since they had just shown whoever they were shadowing a bad experience, and could have turned the prospective worker from applying.

Great post! You made a good point of looking to make the best of any situation. People have a tendency to just give up in such circumstances, especially in the intimidating world of sales that is full of rejection, so it was great to see an example of keeping a positive outlook and looking for a solution when a sale doesn’t go as planned.
What an interesting story! I can imagine the situation in my head and I think it really illustrates the importance of looking at sales as something that can be fun. Being bold with your sales tactics and comfortable as yourself can really help drive success as a salesperson!
This is a great concept that shows it is truly down to the individuals mental capability. How tough they are mentally will determine how they come back from a “No” or a failure. Being able to find the positive things amongst the negative is key because you will find out your strengths and weaknesses. Find the silver lining in the failure.
