A couple of years ago I was looking for an internship and found the MassMutual internship that requires the interns to sell insurance to their family and friends. I began the interview process and it looked promising. They had me contact people in my life and ask them different questions about their finances to get my feet in the water about having these conversations with people. As I began the actual training for the job, it just did not seem like a promising thing. In the training they began with teaching me the Sandler Techniques and went into various exercises with the other interns. At this point, I decided to quit because of the sales philosophy they had. It did not seem like a true relationship they were trying to make. They were just looking for interns to build up a client base for them to potentially hire us on, but the bigger hope was that we would pass along our clients to some of their others salespeople. It is just a tough business to be in and it was a rough thing to see. I did not care for the approach because the relationship was taken out of something that could be so beneficial.

It is sad to hear about this experience. I think that sales has such an opportunity to be a positive asset for those around you, and when that does not happen, it shows the eyes of the organization are not in the right place. Taking this course is helpful in seeing how positive sales can be.
