Over this semester I have gotten to work with/through the Entrepreneurship & Innovation department to have a sales internship with a digital marketing agency, Corkboard Concepts. When beginning the internship, I came in with some expectations of being on sales calls and meeting with clients over meetings. I was excited to use the Sandler techniques and other things we had talked about in class to get in some face to face experience. When I began, however, it was not what I expected. I was told that i should research potential clients, and compile the names of the companies, the phone number or email on their website, and the website itself. This was still pretty interesting, however is was much less face to face interaction and more what I felt was busywork. There were a few actual conversations with people, but only to find an email address or phone number. After awhile of this, I had developed a sort of groove. However, the internship has just ended, and I feel a bit unsatisfied. I still learned a lot, especially with communication inside of a company, and learning how to navigate that area. I wish I could have used more of the stuff we learned in class, but this was a great exercise of selling myself.

I am sorry that your internship experience wasn’t what you were hoping it was going to be. I think that you still made the best of it and learned a lot which honestly at this stage in your life is a great thing to take with you for something you do want to do.
