If you know me, I am not much of an outgoing and extraverted person to most. No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to break out of my shell, which makes sales a difficult topic for me. It is interesting though because when I am at work, I can sell. I have had my bosses and even customers tell me that I have great selling and customer service skills, but I attribute it to the fact that I know mostly all the products that we sell, very well. It gives me a boost of confidence and allows me to share my knowledge with my customers if they need it. It is helpful though to know some secrets that help people sell.
I believe that there are a few different secrets to selling and taking this class has solidified most of my thoughts. First, being more than a salesperson is vital to selling a product or service. Most salesmen are seen as pushy and are intimidating to most people, but when you talk to customers and build a relationship with them, it will most likely make the customer come back, since there was a positive association with the relationship. Another secret is to keep on learning about the product and even other subjects. It is known that the salespeople who keep on learning, are usually the best at their job. As a salesman, you should also listen more than you talk. It is shown that if you listen more than you talk, you will close the sale more often than not. Let the customer feel as if they are dominating the conversation, it will make them feel heard and also make them feel like you are not being pushy and trying to convince them to buy the product. On the other hand, focusing on the negative can also be beneficial. If you make the product seem desirable enough to the point life would be better with the item, it will push people to buy the product more.
When to comes to selling, not everybody has the sales gene, but that does not mean that those who do not have it, cannot sell, it just means that they may need some tips and tricks on how to sell better. I believe that having these secrets in the back of your mind as you are trying to sell, will be beneficial to everybody who tries to sell either a product or service.
