One day when I was a boy a teacher from a local private school came by the house and dropped off several large boxes of text books. I don’t really know why we had them, I think my mom was friends with a school administrator and they were getting rid of old books. The books sat around for a while and I forgot about them quickly. But one day I was sitting around thinking about how to get some money to buy games for my computer. I remembered the textbooks and absentmindedly check how much they would sell for on eBay. $30 dollars. I had over 40 books. So I quickly stated a sellers page on eBay, enlisted my younger brother as my partner, and listed the books for sale. Here is the thing about boys saving up to buy videogames, they are impatient. I listed the books for 10 dollars each. Yes this price point meant reducing potential earnings, but it turns out when you undercut the market by 300 percent, the books fly off the shelf. This was great soon me an my brother were selling multiple books per week. eBay really loved us. They kept recommending us and putting us at the top of search results. Customers loved us too. We always received good reviews, even from one particular customer who we may or may not have sent the completely wrong book to, dont worry we worked it out by sending the right one for free. It might seem like we were a bit strategically reckless. But remember, we got the books for free. Everything was profit and we didn’t even feel bad about giving a book away for free either. I guess you can beat selling something free… for money.

As a college student, I wish I could have some free textbooks I could sell for some profit. So, first off good for you and your brother for finding a way to make profit with things just laying around your house. Also, I thought that was very smart of you to rack up some good reviews on eBay, in order to make your selling more attractable than others on the market. Did you ever get to dive deeper with a customer at all?
This post highlights a unique sales tactic for driving immediate growth and sales volume. By selling at a lower price, a seller is able to gain attention and customers at a quick rate. However, even more important than this is maintaining positive customer interactions after the sale is made. I agree that this tactic is helpful for low-risk experimentation, especially in the beginning stages of a business.
