Nowadays, it feels as if every artist who has at least one hit song is making millions of dollars, but that is just not true. All these artists signed to record labels flex their “wealth” on social media and music videos. Reality is none of the jewelry, cars, models, mansions, etc. are theirs. Record labels are smart and know that nowadays selling an artist’s music is one thing, but selling their image is just as big if not bigger in some cases.
The whole image surrounding an artist is everything when it comes to what people think of an artist. An artist that appears on social media looking like they are worth millions of dollars sells more records and clout rather than an artist who appears on social media with nothing that looks valuable. Its a sad reality, but it is what it is. People like to see their favorite artist look very successful rather than see than looking any other way.
Selling the image is not just important in the music industry, but is also important in every other industry. Image can be everything sometimes. The way someone or something looks from the outside makes the customers think a certain way about a product which in turn can be a selling point.
I agree with this that in a lot of industries it is important to sell “the image” but we must realize how fake this is. Nothing sells better than truthfulness and being genuine. As a sales person we must realize that people can tell when you are putting on an act and when you’re being truthful and honestly trying to help them.
