In the missions field, everyday people are, in a way, selling God’s word. Ultimately it is God’s job to bring someone to Christ. But for people trying to spread God’s love and word we need to be conscious of how we present it in a way they can understand, receive, and not feel attacked.

This upcoming summer I have been given the amazing opportunity to travel to Ireland for a mission internship. Yes, I will be helping the churches themselves, but I am also there to evangelize. For two months, I will be non-sales selling the idea of Jesus as a rescue.

The term evangelize literally means:

the spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness.

— zealous advocacy of a cause.

While selling things, people have a zealous advocacy for their product/service and in return hopes to sell that to others.

The organization Serge, Grace At the Fray, is the organization I will be working with this summer. The mission for them is to bring people together like a seam.

Serge means “joining together rough edges to form a smooth seam.” We see God weaving together the ragged parts of our lives with His goodness, making the tattered beautiful. This is the power of the gospel at work in and through us, transforming our weakness and the world’s brokenness—God’s grace at the fray.

Core to Serge is the belief that we need the gospel as much as anyone else. So as we seek to make the gospel known to others, we desire for this same grace to continually renew our lives.”

This quote resembles what Serge is all about. In sales, a good salesperson is attempting to join together rough edges to form a smooth seem and satisfy their customer’s needs.
