Working in a toy store gives me the opportunity to goof off a lot and still do a great job at work which is something I do not think I will get anywhere else! Most customers that come into the store are looking to have fun and take a break from all of the stress of life as they open the vault-like doors to this extraterrestrial exhibit that I get to work in. However, sometimes there are adults looking to get some toy for their kid that they don’t want to buy, or just see it as a place they have to go because the kids won’t stop begging them to go, and sometimes people are just grumpy and there is no reason at all behind it. I have found that mimicry has been one of the most useful skills to have while working because when I match the energy of the customer I am talking to, they almost always cheer up, even if they were happy to begin with. Playthings Etc. is made for people to have fun and it is so much harder to get someone who feels like they are at a 1 to jump to a 10 than it is to mimic them enough to make them a 2, then 3, then 4, etc. and it always fills me with joy to bring a smile to someone’s face, even if they don’t buy anything because my job is to make people have fun and the side effect is sales!

Its cool to see you implementing things you are learning at your job and how you can utilize it in other instances. the perspective is very cool and a great reminder to always keep the customer in mind.
Interesting topic! I think there is a sort of fun and relief that comes when people shop… Knowing that they are to be catered to as to the other way around. Mimicking is an excellent strategy and body language tactic to build repour in sales and can help ease the customer’s worries and feel more subconsciously connected to the seller.
