What a wild semester it has been everyone. I just wanted to reflect and point out some of the important things Professor Sweet taught out that really stood out to me.

  1. CLOSING THE FILE IS OKAY

Letting some potential customers slip through is perfectly okay, as long as the file was closed in a positive manner. Typically, this happens when a customer realizes that you offer doesn’t necessarily fulfill their needs, or they might not be able to afford your rates, and that’s okay.

2. EXPECT CURVEBALLS

As someone who likes to plan and prioritize everything, sales pitches are something you cannot typically plan for (in the extent to how I did for our sales interview). While there’s certainly a structure and general guidelines one can follow, something can be easily said or happen that changes the whole outlook on the pitch, and one must learn to adapt and overcome those changes.

3. FIND THE REAL PAIN

This one stuck out to me that most as it was something I didn’t really know of prior to the class. By communicating with the customer and finding out their real pains and problems, you can tailor your product or services based on those things you discover to maximize customer loyality.

  1. I also did not expect to hear that closing the file was okay. I think most people have the traditional perspective of sales being about persuasion and persistence, so hearing that it was actually all about a mutual decision was eye-opening and very helpful.
